Mail & Distribution Officer
Location: Kirklees Council, Red Doles Lane, Huddersfield, HD2 1YF
Pay Rate: £13.26 per hour PAYE
Temporary Contract: Full Time | 2 – 3 Month Temporary Contract (Subject to Review)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 16:30pm
Kirklees Council for a Mail & Distribution Officer to join their busy Document Solutions Team on a temporary basis to cover a long-term absence.
This is a varied and hands-on role that combines mail distribution, courier services, vehicle operation, and print finishing duties. You will play a vital role in supporting council services by ensuring mail, documents, IT equipment, and printed materials are delivered efficiently, securely, and professionally across the Kirklees district.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Deliver and collect internal mail, printed materials, and IT equipment across Kirklees Council sites, schools, and other service locations.
- Provide courier and distribution services across the district.
- Ensure all mail and sensitive information is handled securely and confidentially.
- Sort and distribute incoming, outgoing, and internal mail accurately and efficiently.
- Load, operate, and unload council vehicles in accordance with Health & Safety requirements.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure vehicles remain clean, roadworthy, and legally compliant.
- Operate print finishing equipment including folding, inserting, sealing, cutting, and booklet-making machinery.
- Assist in the preparation and production of printed documents, booklets, posters, and other materials.
- Maintain mail and print finishing equipment, ensuring it is safe and operational.
- Deliver excellent customer service as a key point of contact for council departments and service users.
As part of the Council’s Document Solutions Team, you will support a service that handles over one million mail and print items each year. The team provides essential print, mailing, and communication services that support council operations across the district.
The role is currently focused on the collection and delivery of mail and equipment; however, over time there will be increasing involvement in print finishing operations as the council continues to expand its digital and hybrid communication services.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Full, valid UK Driving Licence
- Comfortable driving council fleet vehicles, including LGV vehicles
- Experience working in a delivery, postal, courier, distribution, warehouse, or logistics environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information securely
- Good customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a small, flexible team
- Understanding of Health & Safety procedures relating to vehicle operation and manual handling
