About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our aerospace manufacturing team in Derby. This is a key position responsible for leading Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) activities across the site, ensuring compliance with legislation, promoting a positive safety culture, and driving continuous improvement.
Working closely with operational and leadership teams, you will play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance within a highly regulated engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
As our Health & Safety Officer, you will:
- Lead all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Basildon site.
- Promote a positive safety culture with a focus on continuous improvement and achieving zero harm.
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, environmental regulations and company policies.
- Develop, implement and maintain HSE management systems, policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and workplace assessments, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations, producing reports and recommendations.
- Carry out and support risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe systems of work.
- Advise managers and employees on best practice, legislative requirements and safe working methods.
- Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and provide regular HSE performance reports.
- Deliver Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and training programmes across the business.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety arrangements, drills and Emergency Response Plans.
- Manage PPE requirements and ensure appropriate controls are maintained.
- Coordinate occupational health surveillance programmes with external providers.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers and external contractors regarding Health, Safety, Environmental and site security matters.
- Support ISO management systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor environmental performance and assist in maintaining compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other relevant standards.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about creating safe workplaces and has experience operating within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
You will have:
- Experience in a Health & Safety role within manufacturing, engineering or aerospace.
- Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Experience carrying out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to design and deliver engaging Health & Safety training.
- Strong report writing and analytical skills.
- A collaborative approach with excellent organisational skills.
- High levels of professionalism, discretion and integrity.
- Confidence in leading meetings, audits and investigations.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or currently working towards achieving it).
- Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment where chemical or treatment processes are used.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety management systems and compliance requirements.
Desirable
- Experience within the aerospace sector.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 50001 management systems.
- Understanding of REACH regulations and associated administration.
- Experience supporting environmental management initiatives.
- Previous experience managing emergency response planning and business compliance.
